Intercoms are useful, fun and almost a must, whether with passengers and/or fellow riders. It will take you about 1h to install, + charging time.
-
I prefer to attach action cameras to the bike itself and not to the helmet, with a 360° rotation. That way you could film yourself aboard inserted in the landscape.
-
It´s better to combine photo and video cameras, those with a panoramic (180°) function being especially useful. Take auxiliary memories cards.
-
GPS is very useful when travelling but not when planning; screen size is too small for seeing the big picture. Learn how to use its key functions (for example, understand how to set fastest or shortest routes, etc.) If it is not a motorcycle one (Garmin Zumo or Tom Tom Rider), improvise a waterproof protection for it with Ziploc bags. Also bear in mind that you will need to take some time to install it to the motorcycle and connecting it to a power socket. Check that the sockets are compatible.

Maps: in Europe http://mapasyguias.michelin.es/mapas-de-carreteras/. Check the green routes especially for motorcyclist. In USA, Butler Maps: https://www.butlermaps.com are the ones!

Travel-time packing: take big suitcases in order to carry helmet and equipment on the plane. When checking the baggage, beware of not going over the weight limit (23 kg). In the moto rent, pack all your luggage to the motorcycle’s trunks and whatever is left out, stays in the moto rent itself along with our suitcases.

A small and waterproof backpack always comes in handy.

During your trips, you will encounter lots of kind people, who will help you in different ways. Take small presents in order to give something back to them. I personally like small objects related to my town and/or country.
