GOOD HABITS

  • Save all important objects (such as wallet, phone, GPS, travel documents, etc.) always in the same pockets of your main jacket, pants or backpack, for an easy check before departing every stopover.

  • I find it useful to hang the motorcycle’s key over my neck.

  • I usually keep small amounts of money in an easy-access pocket, but always in the same one (my selection, the zipped left pant pocket)

  • Be organized and pack in advance. In the morning you have to be agile or departure is delayed. Ergo, the lighter the luggage the better! Have a good breakfast in order to have lunch later and lighter.

  • Speak with the locals during stops. Nobody knows more than them.

  • Traffic: in Europe and USA, traffic movements are considerable in weekends and holidays. By all means, avoid them! Tips for group traveling.

       ALSO CONSIDER ...

  • Plan the return trip with amplitude because of weather and mishaps. Try to spend your last night prior to returning the bike, no further than 300 kms from your destination.

  • In Europe and the US, credit cards with chip are extensively used, especially for self-service gas stations.

  • With Booking.com,  theirs no need to reserve in advance. You have as many options of quality and price as you want.

  • It’s important to decide on the level of hotels before departing, because it cannot be a subject of dispute during the trip.

  • Big cities are wonderful… if you want to go with girlfriends or wives, but NOT for motorcycles.

  • If you’re travelling with a passenger, find entertainment for him/her as well. Share some of the enjoyment!

  • If you’re planning to attend a special event in the middle of the tour (concerts, meetings, etc.) give yourselves at least a 1-day margin to get there.

  • Check specialized guides such as Le Plus Beau Detour of France, Paradores of Spain, and particularly Michelin Guides. It is a shame missing a great place just because we did not know we drove 1 mile away.

  • Expenditure per day in Euros for 2018: between 200 and 300. Of course, you can always spend more. Typically: moto rent between 80 -130 depending on type of bike and insurance; 50 in gas; between 50 -150 in lodgings; regarding food, 50 should do the trick, given that with all the riding excessive eating is not recommended, especially at night.
