TIPS

  • From Spain, I’ve always rented my bike with IMT Bike www.imtbike.es. The bikes had very little use on them and, perhaps most important, they worked perfectly for the whole of the journey. They rent motorcycles in various places in Spain and Portugal, but also organize excellent guided tours. They know Europe very well and particularly the Iberian Peninsula. Irina will treat you with professionalism and warmth. Javi (an ex MX biker) will hand the motorcycle over in pristine condition, and with a set of manners and affection more Latin American than European. Scott is the owner ( from the land of The Eagles) and there’s absolutely nothing you cannot accomplish with him, especially with a Weather Report CD with you.

  • In order to have an idea of what the riding experience looks like, check my videos page or www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xt168q0nGMs

  • When receiving the bike, have good manners and listen to the briefing attentively. Bikes are already assigned, so it is better if you do not request changes.

  • Fines are CONSIDERABLE!! Average 300 Euros, so beware!

  • If you don’t mind, short hair is always more comfortable for trips longer than 10 days, as there is little time for washing the helmet

  • Buy maps of the area you will tour, and at least two colors of markers to highlight the trail we have gone through each day. Nice to remember!

  • Check dates on pictures and videos, so they can act as reference afterwards.

  • Don’t tape videos just because. It complicates selecting and editing afterwards.

  • Tape more than one shot on different angles to enrich edition.

  • Don’t forget to take cleaning products for the helmet visor and camera case, as well as soft tissue paper.

  • If you take medications, don’t forget a practical case in order to carry them.

  • Prescription glasses: Not any set of glasses fits perfectly inside a helmet, and the issue is further complicated if they are prescription glasses. Furthermore, if you want them to function as sunglasses and at the same time using them to read the GPS or the bike’s display screen, you’ve encountered yourself with an interesting problem. For those of you who live in Montevideo (URU), I’ve been treated excellently by either Mathias or Ximena, in INFINITO Optics, Carrasco Branch www.infinitoserviciosopticos.com

  • Print photocopies of important documents: passport, driver’s license, bike ownership certificate, credit cards, visas, etc. Have at least three copies of all these stored in different places, one of them being the suitcase in your arrival destination.
